Mark Cuban Sells Majority Ownership of Dallas Mavericks
A New Era of NBA Ownership
Mavs Owner Bets on Real Estate
Mark Cuban, the former principal owner and current minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), has sold 73 percent of the franchise to Miriam Adelson for $3.5 billion.
Cuban remains a regular presence at Mavericks games, but he can no longer call himself the team's majority owner. The sale was approved by the NBA Board of Governors on Wednesday by a vote of 29-0.
According to Cuban, the sale is part of a broader strategy to invest in real estate. He believes that the future of NBA ownership lies in owning arenas and other real estate assets.
"I think the future is in controlling real estate," Cuban said. "That's where the advantages are going to be."
Cuban's sale of the Mavericks is a sign of the changing landscape of NBA ownership. In recent years, several high-profile owners have sold their teams, including Steve Ballmer (Los Angeles Clippers), Donald Sterling (Los Angeles Clippers), and Jerry Buss (Los Angeles Lakers).
