Blake Snell Throws No-Hitter in Giants Debut
Snell's First Career No-No Comes Against Padres
Giants Win 5-0 Behind Snell's Gem
In a stunning turn of events, Blake Snell threw a no-hitter in his first start for the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, blanking the San Diego Padres 5-0 at Oracle Park. It was Snell's first career no-hitter and the first by a Giants pitcher since Matt Cain in 2012.
Snell, who was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade last month, was dominant from the start. He struck out 13 batters and walked just one, throwing 80 pitches in the complete-game victory. The Padres managed just three baserunners all night, with two coming on errors and the other on a walk.
The Giants offense provided just enough support for Snell, scoring five runs on ten hits. Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater each drove in two runs, while Brandon Crawford added another.
With the win, the Giants improve to 11-9 on the season and move into second place in the NL West, one game behind the Padres. Snell's no-hitter is a major boost to the Giants' rotation and a sign that they could be a contender in the NL this year.
